TIL the Moriori were a tribe that practiced pacifism. When the Maori began to kil, cannibalize, and enslave them two chiefs declared, "the law of Nunuku was not a strategy for survival, to be varied as conditions changed; it was a moral imperative." Of a population of ~2,000 only 101 survived.
