Scientists use nontoxic silicon nanocrystals to convert low-energy photons into high-energy ones, which could lead to minimally invasive photodynamic treatments for cancer. It could also lead to new tech for solar-energy conversion, quantum information, and near-infrared driven photocatalysis.
