Scientists find meteorite pieces that are about 2.4 billion years older than the solar system. The evidence comes from 50 tiny grains taken from the Murchison meteorite, which fell to Australia in 1969, and they suggest the Milky Way experienced a burst of star formation some 7 billion years ago.
